On August 27, 1990, legendary guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan was killed in a helicopter crash at the age of 35.
Stevie Ray Vaughan’s 8-foot tall memorial bronze statue was installed four years later on Austin’s hike-and-bike trail about 100 yards from Auditorium Shores, where he performed often. It has become one of Austin’s most popular tourist attractions. Fans of his music leave flowers at its base or take a picture with the statue.
