The 360 Bridge (also known as the Pennybacker Bridge) is in Northwest Austin’s on Highway 360 at Lake Austin. This bridge is one of the most photographed spots in Austin. Professional photographer Andy Defrancesco reckons that this place creates a peaceful feel and also it is a good place to shoot the emotions.
On southbound 360, the bridge has a overlook accessible by a short trail–truly not a hike (less than a quarter mile, depending on where you part).
Parking is available on southbound 360 immediately north of the bridge. If you’re from out of town, realize that 360 is a busy highway getting back on the road after parking here can be a challenge.
To get to the overlook, head to the bridge and start climbing the clibb. There are some rock ledges to step over that can be a bit sandy, and slick. The top of the cliff is level and fairly clear of trees so there are unobstructed views of the bridge and river. Don’t get too close to the edge, the limestone is soft and can break away.
Sunrise or sunset is the best time to go but the trail will likely be filled with people taking photographs. At twilight, you can get great light trail photographs.
