The Armadillo Christmas Bazaar is a longstanding Austin holiday tradition that originated in 1976. The event was started by Armadillo World Headquarters, a music venue and recording studio that was a hub for Austin’s music scene in the 1970s and 1980s. The Armadillo Christmas Bazaar features live music, curated art, and craft vendors while upholding Armadillo’s tradition of hosting Austin’s musical scene.
Like with most events in 2021, the Bazaar had to adjust to the rapidly changing pandemic situation. Though originally scheduled to be inside the Parmer Events Center, the festive pivoted to being held outside on the grounds of the Parmer Events center. The festival was also shortened from ten days to three days. So go support the artists and musicians this weekend!
From the moment you step into the Bazaar, you find yourself surrounded by beautiful handmade arts and crafts from all over the country. You can also enjoy a variety of local Austin musicians and artists. It might be the perfect place to pick up that affordable masterpiece.
The 2021 featured musicians include Ruthie Foster, Shinyribs, Gina Chavez, Jackie Venson, Tomar and the FCs and Carolyn Wonderland with Shelley King. The bands begin their sets at 11 am and 2:30 pm daily
In 2021 there are more than 100 local and touring artists to shop from, discover over 30 new artists alongside returning favorites, of which approximately half are from Texas and the other half from elsewhere across the country. One of the things I enjoy most about shopping at the Christmas Bazaar is the opportunity to engage with artists and ask questions about their art or their technique.
The Armadillo Christmas Bazaar is filled with music, art, and food. If you don’t want to buy anything, it is still a wonderful experience. There is plenty to do in Austin during the Christmas season, especially if you are a music fan or an art lover. I highly recommend venturing out to the bazaar.
