The Fearless Critic is an Austin restaurant guidebook. Three local food writers rate and reviews more than 390 restaurants in the greater Austin area, including Round Rock, Pflugerville, Dripping Springs, and the Hill Country. The book comes complete with numerous sets of cross-referenced lists that help you find the ideal restaurant for every occasion. I just paged through the book quickly but I’ve got one on order. Full review to follow.
Interestingly, I’ve eaten at most of these places but not for brunch. I’ve tried Manuel’s and Tien Hong for brunch. Very different but both are decent. Fonda San Miguel’s brunch is legendary. Did they forget a favorite place? Add your thoughts in comments.
Where’s Kerbey Lane?
Have you tried Chez Z off 2222?

Chez Zee is one of my favorite places for brunch. Like the atmosphere–it’s always fun and festive there. French Toast is awesome.
I have to admit that I was surprised that Fonda San Miguel’s wasn’t at the top of the list. I’ve never had a brunch like it anywhere. Of the 5 above it, I’ve only been to South Congress Cafe: good, a few interesting twists, but not super memorable. Maybe the reviewers were turned off by the price tag.
Maudie’s is the place…I can’t believe it didn’t make the list…
I am always looking for a brunch that serves sushi among other many other dishes. Do any of these brunches carry sushi?
