Hazelnut, Tiramisu, Mango, Raspberry…YUM!!! A small cup of rich Gelato can frequently satisfy the palate better than a pint of ice cream. Tonight we stopped in at Gelato’s (512-371-9858, 9070 Research Blvd # 303, Austin, TX 78758). Gelato’s is in the strip center on the southwest corner of Burnet and 183 (same center as Trudy’s and Benihana). Despite the address it faces Burnet. They actually stay open till 11:00 p.m. on Saturdays and 10 p.m. on weeknights.
Friendly service, average decor (although I really liked some of the paintings and photos on the wall). They had Go, Checkers and Chess sets scattered about–we ended up playing chess for over an hour.
Besides a variety of gelato flavors they serve coffees of various sorts (went for just a plain decaf tonight), sandwiches and bagles. Decent gelato, good coffee, friendly service–if you’re in the neighborhood it’s worth a drop-in.
For great gelato flavors check out Dolce Vita in Hyde Park. They have some creative flavors like cinnamon roll and blackberry-lemon! See my take at http://austineatcetera.wordpress.com/2010/12/03/living-the-sweet-life-in-hyde-park-with-great-gelato/
