Use the comment feature to tell me about your favorite Austin based hamburger joint. OK OK we might have to extend it to the Hill Country since one of my favorites is off near Marble Falls.

Dude. Dirty Martins.
Gotta be Fran’s on S. Congress.
It is not in Austin proper, but we had a kick a one at the Lodge at Lakeway recently. It tasted like it had been cooked outside over a grill.
I’m partial to Hut’s. What’s the place that you like out near Marble Falls?
Casino El Camino on 6th. Nothing can match the Amarillo burger. 3/4 pound of Angus beef, cilantro mayo and roasted serrano peppers. Be prepared to wait 30-45 minutes for it to cook. The wait is well worth it!
Actually the place is near Lampassas and is called Storm’s Drive-In Restaurant–201 N Key Ave
Lampasas Texas 76550-1844
Another vote for Dirty’s. After all, a 78-year-old burger joint has GOT to have built up enough grease to be about good by now. I still miss Doc, and wonder WHAT I’m gonna do when Wesley finally retires.
Posse East. Yup.
Casino el Camino. It’s probably a good thing the service there is so slow, or I’d eat there a lot more and be big as a house. The burgers are amazing.
Dirty’s? Come on. I tried them once and barely lived to tell the tale.
South: Fran’s (and the Double jalapeno cheeseburger in particular).
Downtown: Casino El Camino’s (with the Buffalo Burger being my personal favorite).
Casino El Camino, hands down.
Is it a total copout to say how much I love Fuddruckers? And what about Burger Tex, guys?
One more for Casino El Camino
and yet another for casino. Plus, it doesnt help that I have the hots for no less than 2 bartenders and one of the guys who checks IDs.
I’ve yet to taste anything that matches Casino. It doesn’t hurt that you can watch them make the patties, grill the beef, and cut the fries while you wait (and wait, and wait, but that’s another story).
Time Out for Burgers was the best. They have been replaced by Holiday House in Westlake. Other than that I have to say Fudd’s.
It was the burger at Emilia’s but ya gotta try the outstanding hamburger at the Roaring Fork in the Stephen F. Austin hotel.
I’m told veggie burgers count. So I’m gonna put in a vote for Shady Grove. Flipnotics serves a mean salsa veggie burger too, with avocados. You can substitute hummus if you’re not a big avocado fan or if they’re out of avocados.
I know burgers. Hill-Bert’s on Lamar near 35th Street. Best in town, plus the best onion rings and chocolate shakes to go with. Yum-mmm.
I vote for Hill’s Cafe. The sweet bun they use just brings it all together. I also enjoy Top Notch on Burnet.
Crown & Anchor has the best veggie burger.
definitely, definitely, definitely Casino.
One for up north…True Grits on 1431 in Jonestown..fries arent bad either.
Poodie’s Hilltop Bar and Grill on 71W. They do a special one for me with jalapenos, bell peppers, hatch chiles, onions, mushrooms, and pepper jack cheese with a dusting of garlic salt. It’s not on the menu yet but it will be eventually I bet. The Poodie Burger isn’t bad either.
It actually makes me angry when I come across a “nod” for Hut’s (or for anywhere else but Casino, for that matter). I won’t go so far as to critique the other “restaurants” mentioned here that I’ve tried- I’m not sure I could manage to write anything but truly offensive reviews.
I really don’t want anyone else encroaching on my territory at C’s either.
Damn.
Hut’s (cold, canned mushrooms; thin, flaccid “beef” patties (do they just run to Whataburger for that crap?); plain, yellow mustard) rocks!!!!!
Another vote for Casino El Camino, best burger in my opinion
HOOTERS HAS AN EXCELLENT CHEESBURGER, BUT I’VE SEEN EXACTLY WHAT ONE LOOKS LIKE…
MIKES PUB DOWNTOWN 7TH EAST OF CONGRESS. EXCELLENT!
The answer in Burger Tex by a landslide. The best location is the one at 30th/Guadelupe. I think one of the best burger places in the entire country.
Houston’s has a great burger. Grilled over real wood fire. Quality half-pound burger.
Also recommend Top Notch. It’s more fast-foodish, a thin burger, but is damn good.
I’m a fan of Dirty’s but there is a little secret burger place on 620 called Sandy’s. Their hickory burger is fantastic. Burgerintel.com has a few reviews too– Kinda weird, but kinda cool.
That Burgerintel site is wild, great review on Dirty’s though. It is truly one of the better burger shops in the U.S., let alone Austin.
Crown and Anchor! Specifically the bacon CHEDDER cheeseburger with jalapenos.
A close second would be Mike’s Pub.
Hut’s was pretty good, but all this talk has me wondering about Casino el Camino. I always hear how great the burger is, but I hear an equal amount about how slow the service is. My vote for now goes to Hill-Bert’s on Lamar. It is inexpensive, but tasty. Atmosphere is quaint and the service is fast and pleasant. For everyone that likes a thick burger, just get the double patty.
There is new burger in town – on Spicewood Springs just east of Mesa. Burger House is great!! Get the double double or Zoe’s Chicken Sandwich – and the fries are the very best!! Great patio, too – and a drive thru. This is the same joint that has been in Dallas since 1951.

Went into Casino for a buger…What I found was a Very dark and dirty bar with all the smells that go with a dirty bar. I walked out.
What’s up, what’s up?
Sandy’s!
Later.
